John Becker to Join Class to Speak on Federalism Committee of Ohio House

Ohio House Member John Becker will open this class and discus his new position as chairman of the Federalism Committee in the Ohio House of Representatives. Becker will speak on the Electoral College and other important topics his committee will review like Convention of the States.
At about 7:20 PM we will start our presentation on Democracy Now! Is the Electoral College outdated having served its purpose, if it ever had one? Ongoing efforts both legislatively and otherwise seek to establish the election of the President of the United States by popular vote bypassing the Electoral College system. Join Mr. Mike Maharrey of the Tenth Amendment Center as he explains the function and operation of the Electoral College.
How does the Electoral College fit within the American constitutional system? How will the movement to abolish the Electoral College fundamentally alter the way a President is chosen and the political relationship between the federal government and the fifty states which make up the United States of America?
Michael Maharrey serves as the national communications director for the Tenth Amendment Center and the managing editor of the Schiff Gold blog. Representative John Becker (R-Union Township, Clermont County) has been named to serve as the chairman of the Federalism Committee in the Ohio House of Representatives, from his previous post as vice chairman. Becker will speak the first 15 minutes of the EmpowerU session to discuss his role and how it pertains to key issues like the Electoral College and the possible Convention of the States.
House Speaker Householder also appointed Becker to serve as a member of two other Ohio House committees, the Ways & Means Committee and the State & Local Government Committee.
