Dan Discusses Martin Luther King Jr. and the Event–click here

Fifty-Four years after the delivery of one of the most important speeches in American History, EmpowerU will examine and celebrate Martin Luther King’s I have a Dream Speech.  This important speech delivered by civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom happened on August 28, 1963 in which King calls for an end to racism in the United States and calls for civil and economic rights.   We encourage attendees to bring their children for the chance to see and learn from this important event.

The Speech will be shown in its entirety at EmpowerU studio (18 minutes) and then important community leaders will discuss the impact the speech has had on them and what messages and lessons we can take from this speech and King’s teachings. We will also encourage members of the audience to take the floor and give their thoughts and reflections on King—time permitting.

How to Read Your Customers & Negotiate to Win! and How to Influence People…

EmpowerU Studio at Frame USA
225 Northland Blvd
Cincinnati, Ohio, 45246

Wednesday, October 5, 2016 5:00-6:30 p.m.

Bill Gladwell is a Thought Reader, Mentalist, Actor and Consultant.  He will read your thoughts! He has focused his attention on the field of Social Dynamics for over 25 years, and he is able to teach what he knows in an understandable and usable way. Social Dynamics is the study of how people interact within a group (2 or more people). Individuals in a group are influenced by one another’s behavior making them more predictable and suggestible, and Bill teaches you how to take advantage of this phenomenon. He teaches you how to influence others.

In this particular presentation, Bill illustrates how the process of dating is the same process you should be using in the business world to network (pick-up), structure your 1st meeting (1st date), negotiate (fall in love), and seal the deal. When you learn how these processes are essentially the same, sales techniques are no longer needed; and the relationship you build with your client is the priority.

For over 27 years, Bill Gladwell has studied and mastered the unique art of reading and influencing people, and he demonstrates his skill in a thought-provoking performance for intelligent audiences.

Tuesday, October 11, 2016 7:00 -8:30 p.m.

Cheers! To the Fine Art of Making Wine!!  Join Empower U and Tom Deutsch as he leads us through the Art of Wine Making.

Tom’s heritage and formative years were filled with Italian traditions including making wine in the fall. This conjured up thoughts of the rich and flavorful aromas of fruit and visions of age-old vineyards in their homeland of Fuscaldo Italy.  He developed a love and passion for wine making which he will share with us.

He will take the mystery out of this sometimes  intimidating process and walk us through step by step how, we to, can place our own wine on the table!

Tom uses wine making equipment that his family kept from the 1930’s.  Most wine enthusiasts are not lucky enough to have such treasures so Tom will address what equipment is available.  Also the many steps included in the process from knowing when to harvest the grapes, fermenting, pressing and kegging or bottling then aging the wine.

Tom will take us from the vineyard to the pouring of our own wine for friends and family!

Active Shooter

Nathanael Greene Lodge at Veterans Park
6394 Wesselman Road
Cincinnati, Ohio, 45248

Thursday, October 20, 2016 7:00 PM-8:30 PM

An active shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area. In most cases, active shooters use firearms and there is no pattern or method to the way their victims are selected.

While active shooter situations are relatively rare, the devastation caused by several recent incidents makes preparing for such an event seem prudent.

How should you react if you find yourself in the middle of an active shooter situation?

This session will provide guidance on how to respond to an active shooter at work, the mall, a movie theater or at your school. Everyone should be prepared to make an informed decision whether to run, hide, or fight if confronted by an active shooter.  Responding correctly could mean the difference between life and death.

During this session, attendees will learn about the ALICE program which is being taught in most of our schools, as well as the Run, Hide, Fight program which was developed by the Department of Homeland Security.  We will also will discuss the many lessons learned from active shooter incidents at places such as Virginia Tech and Columbine High School.

Jack Atherton has been cited by The Online Urban Dictionary as the inspiration for Ron Burgundy, Will Ferrell’s character in the Anchorman movies.  Jack’s response: “If you were a man, I’d punch you.  But at least you spelled my name right.”

After anchoring and reporting in San Antonio and Miami, Jack helped start The Ten O’Clock News on Cincinnati’s FOX19.  During his 15 years there, it was among the highest-rated primetime newscasts in the country.  Jack also contributed columns to Cincinnati Gentlemen magazine and taught a course on the history of electronic media at the University of Cincinnati.   Jack will be discussing why most news is a distraction from crucial issues we all face, including:

  • the true causes of crime
  • how government is rigging the economy against the poor and middle class
  • Alexis de Tocqueville’s warning about politics and pop culture
  • establishment Republicans and the rise of Donald Trump
  • the Clinton scandals and Hillary’s record

To show how liberal bias came to pervade most media, Jack will survey the history of journalism in America since 1800.   But most of all, he hopes to hear from you.  Stay classy.

Exploring One of Lincoln’s Most Important Speeches Right Before Our Election.

This class will be a unique learning History experience for many but especially for our younger people.  Pat Maloney’s knowledge of History and his dedication and love to the Republic result in a much-felt, passionate presentation that is sure to be kept in your memory for quite a while!

Is this time in history really the most threatening to our Republic or have we survived similar conditions?  This class will provide an in-depth look into our past, how it is similar to our present, and how Abraham Lincoln advised Americans to overcome these dangers.

Join us as our Empower U Board Historian, Patrick Maloney, explores a speech given by Abraham Lincoln in 1834 at the Young Men’s Lyceum Museum of Springfield, Illinois.  He will explore the context and meaning of this most magnificent, but largely forgotten address (which many consider one of Lincoln’s most important speeches). What can it reveal about the current state of American politics and how to proceed?

Can we once again unite as a people to prevent what many see as an inevitable fracture in or Republic?  This class may give you hope to draw on from the past.
